Welcome to the website of Io, a framework for online games. Io provides online game developers with a foundation to work from, freeing them from the task of writing all kinds of backend infrastructure that has nothing to do with the game they want to create.
The framework is targetted at programmers that work with Java or other languages that run on the Java platform. Its functionality encompasses backend infrastructure only, and is completely agnostic of your game's genre or mode of representation. No matter if you write a simple Swing-based online card game or a full-fledged First Person 3D Shooter, Io is there to serve your needs.
The complete source code is available under a simple, BSD-like open source license. Io can be used, modified and distributed by everyone, free of charge, for commercial or non-commercial purposes.
While the framework is already available and useful, it is still under development. Features are limited and APIs might be changed at any time. We won't and can't make any guarantees regarding stability and backwards-compatibility until our 1.0 release.
